First 24 hours in iraq

Lets see, the compound here in balad iraq is pretty awesome! Its just my company here right next to the airport with a squadron of f-16s parked 100 yards from our barracks. 200 yards in the other direction is the perimeter fence which today got attacked with mortars. HAHA I was in the office when they went off and the place shook so bad it felt like a earth quake, 3 more rounds went off and then all was quite and we went on with our business. About 2-3 hours later the guard towers engaged some insurgents outside the wire and a battle ensued right in front of our compound, bullets flying every where. All of this 200-300 yards away from where I'm at. Lets just say that several insurgents don't stand up to well against 2 apaches and 3 f-16s, not one bit.
Yep so the first 48 hours of iraq I have been shot at and mortared, this is awesome!!

Getting Ready

Well I can't tell much but we're getting ready to go in, they issued out all of the ammo we have to everybody last night. Everybody is sitting around cleaning our weapons, double and triple checking the aircraft. Every morning and night we check the commo on the air craft making sure they work. The jokes have stopped in the tents as every one is finally getting in the mind set that we're goin in and to get where we're going we have to fly through most dangerous part of the country. For security reasons I can't say when we're leaving of course. Its so freakin hot on the tarmac too, its regularly in the 140s to 150s out there, of course there is no shade. DUH its a desert, not a thing for miles except an occasional herd of camels. Don't shoot the camels either, the browns are worth 25,000 dollars and the white ones are 100,000 dollars. To know that exact number somebody had shoot one! That person wasn't me, whew that would be my whole pay check for many months to come.

Well, I'm out for now

Confused

Well I just got off of my leave and had to come back to this freakin place called fort sill oklahoma.  I believe this place is the arm pit of the US but who really knows.  Yeah I'm kinda down right now, it was hard leaving the family behind this time.  Before it was pretty easy, but I guess with the idea of going into some type of war zone and not coming back does something to ya.  Then I also think that something is up and then its not and then it is, an emotional rollercoaster is not what I need right now but I am the one who got on that train so I can't blame anybody.

Oh well, tomorrow starts day 1 of actual war for us, all of our training and everything gets put to the test.  Its no longer a game, its for real, people live and die by what one person does.  I just pray that I can do my job 110% all the time.

GRADUATION

I graduate today after lunch!! Don't worry I got somebody taking pictures.  I made an 88.5 gpa on the whole course, WHEW I worked for every point of that gpa to.  Whats sad is that I tied for last place in the class with a girl here.  The next grade higher was a 92.3, oh well thats what happens when you go to school with people that already know the equipment they're working on.  It was fun though, gotta spend time with some family over the weekend, met some pretty cool people here.  My plane leaves tomorrow at 11:50 and I'll be touching down at 5:05 YEAH YEAH.  Can't wait to be home, I just gotta go pack all my crap now.

SEE YA WHEN I GET HOME
